The modern history of Konnathadi, which had human settlements dating back to between 700 BC and 400 BC, began in the mid-20th century with the migration of farmers who were drawn to the region by the knowledge shared by the 'Mannan' tribal community. While the post-independence food scarcity and the government's strategic stance to prevent the loss of Tamil-majority territories accelerated this migration, intense struggles were mounted under the leadership of the Karshaka Sangham (Farmers' Association) against eviction attempts by forest and revenue officials from 1951 onwards.
